What do u do when family treats u bad?

I have a 81 year old Mom that i have been taking care of everyday. She is starting to show signs of Demenia. I feel she needs to go into a Personal Care Home. I love her dearly. but the problem is i have a stepbrother that is nothing but rude to me. We are not close and i am glad but He is part of my moms life. I tell him about my mom's health and he either says I get differant stories. He lives in CA doesn't help but yet he wants to tell me how to take care of mymom. she sounds okay to me on the phone. She sounds coherant enough. He doesn't see her everyday like i did, So tonight i told him off and told him if he wants information he will have to get it himself. I'm tired of self centered attitude basicly told him to shove it. Did i do the right thing??? He is no lose if i never talk tohim again.
